The department has a very international orientation, with less than half of the faculty members in computer science being Danish. The PhD programme covers the entire spectrum of Computer Science competences required to produce quality solutions to computationally hard and computation or data intensive problems, from theoretical analyses to actual implementations on a variety of platforms.

The computer science group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is particularly strong in the following research areas:

With a PhD degree from the University of Southern Denmark, in one of the above areas, you will be well groomed for a future international research career or a very interesting career in the private sector.

As a PhD student in Computer Science, in addition to taking part in the active research environment in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, you will in most cases have a research stay abroad.
